With simply the thumbs, you can pull and release the cable with ease. In addition, you can keep all fingers on the handlebar allowing you to either hold onto the handlebar, or brake and shift simultaneously. Gone are the days where you need to remember which finger does what. With only your thumb, you can shift up or down on any "Impulse" you choose.
